Sri Aurobindo – Max Muller – Subhas Chandra

This monograph contains two papers written by me earlier. The paper on Max Muller was presented by me at a seminar on Max Muller’s Indology: Current Views organised by the Asiatic Society in December, 2000 and thereafter this was published in the Journal of the Asiatic Society (vol. XLIII, No. 3, 2001). Few months after that Sri Biswajit Ganguly of Sri Aurobindo Bhavan had drawn my attention to a letter of Gautam Dharmapal published in the Statesman. Considering the importance of this letter, I have incorporated main points of this letter in my paper on Max Muller.

This monograph contains two papers written by me earlier. The paper on Max Muller was presented by me at a seminar on Max Muller’s Indology: Current Views organised by the Asiatic Society in December, 2000 and thereafter this was published in the Journal of the Asiatic Society (vol. XLIII, No. 3, 2001). Few months after that Sri Biswajit Ganguly of Sri Aurobindo Bhavan had drawn my attention to a letter of Gautam Dharmapal published in the Statesman. Considering the importance of this letter, I have incorporated main points of this letter in my paper on Max Muller.
My paper on Subhas Chandra Bose was presented at a monthly meeting of the Asiatic Society and then published in the Journal of the Asiatic Society (vol. XLV, No. 1, 2003). The perceptions of Sri Aurobindo and Subhas Chandra on contemporary political situation are discussed in detail in this paper.
I am extremely thankful to Sri Aurobindo Bhavan for taking interest in these two papers and publishing them in the form of a monograph. I also acknowledge my gratitude to the Asiatic Society, Kolkata, for highlighting these two papers through its Journal. I must also thank Sri Biswajit Ganguly for bringing out this monograph in this attractive form.
